Aspen/Snowmass recognizes that their business has major environmental impacts and the company has been working for several years to mitigate these. Initiatives include: (1) Using clean, renewable Biodiesel in their snowcats - a program started in 2001 and ending in 2008 as new cleaner diesel standards kick in; (2) Encouraging employee contributions to the Environment Foundation, matched by the Aspen Community Foundation and the Aspen Skiing Company Family Fund and used for local environmental causes; (3) Earning ISO 14001 certification; (4) Becoming the first large ski resort to buy renewable wind power credits from 2006 and 2008 and is now actively developing new renewable energy projects, like the 150kW CRMS solar array; and (5) Having the only green building policy in the snowsports industry. |
